DALLAS – Texas Longhorns and University of Oklahoma Sooners fans are invading Dallas right now. It's a big weekend as crowds gather to celebrate the Red River Rivalry.
"Let's go!" shouted a group of Sooners fans from a patio in the city's West End. They tried to match the volume of Longhorns fans who were shouting "Hook 'em" from a party on a patio across the street.
Fans are preparing for the 110th edition of the football classic that some call one of the biggest rivalry games in college sports.
Sooners fan Trecia Harrell says she's ready for the big game.
"Well, tradition. Everybody is going to be out there to support it," Harrell said.
Roughly 100,000 people are expected to pack the Cotton Bowl and Fair Park for the Red River Showdown.
Many Longhorns fans admit they're nervous.
"We'll see what happens," said David Gilster.
Gilster and other Longhorns supporters are remaining optimistic, given their team has not had the best season so far.
"I'll tell you what. If we win tomorrow, it's going to make this town have the best five days of winning streak that's ever happened," said longtime Longhorns fan Beau Williams. "So, think about this, okay, Rangers won yesterday. Stars won yesterday. Rangers won today. If the longhorns win tomorrow, and the Cowboys win on Sunday, that's the best five days this town has seen."
The Red River Showdown begins at 11 a.m. in the Cotton Bowl, Saturday, Oct. 10.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit is increasing trains to Fair Park during Texas/OU weekend.
