PROSPER, Texas — Attendees at Prosper’s annual Chrome and Coffee car show may have been distracted by the police department’s emergency rescue vehicle.
Some commenters on social media questioned the purpose of the vehicle, while others just wanted to see it in person.
“What is the application for this vehicle? Genuinely curious,” one person wrote on Facebook.
“Can I take it for a spin?” another commenter joked.
The Prosper Police Department says it’s brought the multi-purpose vehicle to events since 2019. The department said it cost taxpayers - $0 - because the money was obtained through the Federal 1033 program.
The value for the armored vehicle is a whopping $689,000 and for that amount, it can serve in high water rescues, active shooter situations, hostage or barricaded person rescues, Prosper PD said.
"The department also uses the vehicle occasionally for public safety displays in the Town of Prosper. In accordance with the Federal 1033 program, the Town can continue using the vehicle with an annual renewal agreement signed by the Town Manager or the Mayor," the department said in a statement.
