DALLAS — Selena Quintanilla’s legacy will once again take center stage with a new documentary set to premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
The family-supported documentary titled “Selena Y Los Dinos” will debut in January 2025 offering never-before-seen footage from the Quintanilla family’s personal archive and an in-depth look at the life and impact of the Tejano music icon.
Selena's siblings Suzette Quintanilla and AB Quintanilla III are credited as executive producers on the project. Five-time Emmy-nominated, award-winning filmmaker Isabel Castro directed the film. Castro is also known for the 2022 Netflix documentary, "I Am Vanessa Guillen."
Next year marks 30 years since her tragic death, but her legacy continues to live on and has inspired films, TV shows, books, concerts and more.
The 1997 Selena biopic, starring Jennifer Lopez, and Netflix’s 2020 Selena: The Series, starring Christian Serratos, have already explored the singer’s story, but "Selena y Los Dinos" promises to transport viewers back to the 1990s with heartfelt interviews with those who were closest to Selena.
Selena died at the age of 23 when she was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar on March 31, 1995. Saldivar, meanwhile, is up for parole in March 2025.
Earlier this year, Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them on Oxygen featured interviews with Saldívar and her family members. Selena’s dad Abraham Quintanilla blasted the docu-series.
In the 30 years since her death, many fans speculate that she would have gone on to achieve even more success if she were alive today.
The 2025 Sundance Film Festival will take place in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2.
