CHICAGO — Arlington native and Grammy-winning country singer-songwriter Maren Morris will take the stage during the third night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Her debut album “Hero” was released in 2016 and earned a spot at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Two songs from the album, “My Church” and “80s Mercedes,” reached No. 5 and No. 11 on Billboard’s Hot Country songs chart. Morris' debut SNL performance was that same year.

She earned her first Grammy in 2017 for Best Country Solo Performance for “My Church” and performed her song “Once” with Alicia Keys at the Grammys that same year.

Morris, 34, won her first Country Music Award for New Artist of the Year in 2016 and was the most-nominated artist at the 2019 CMAs.

She’s continued to be involved in events in her home state, from headlining during the western sports event American Western Weekend at Globe Life Field in her hometown of Arlington just last year. She was appointed honorary chairwoman of the Texas Music Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing music education programs and saving arts programs in the Lone Star State, in 2018.

Most recently, Morris has added an author to her list of titles. She and her best friend Karina Argow collaborated on a children’s book called “Addie Ant Goes on an Adventure” earlier this year. She reportedly skipped the CMT Awards in April for the book tour.

The multi-hyphenate is no stranger to wading into hot-button topics either.

Morris has reportedly had a rocky relationship with the CMAs in recent years, having skipped the awards in Nashville in 2023 after her 2022 tweet dubbing Brittany Aldean, wife of country star Jason Aldean, “Insurrection Barbie” in a social media dispute over trans rights and gender-affirming healthcare went viral.

Other performers on the third night of the DNC include John Legend and Stevie Wonder.
