DALLAS — She could make you put your phone down -- and pick up a magazine instead!
Vogue just announced the cover star of their March 2023 issue, and it's none other than Dallas' own Erykah Badu.
The story of the musician's second coming was published on Wednesday with breathtaking pictures from a LA beach photoshoot.
The queen of Neo-Soul was interviewed in her South Dallas childhood home -- a nearly century-old home that her mother still lives in. She was raised by all women: her mother, grandmothers, and godmother.
She said that same home was where she found her love for music, with inspiration from Chaka Khan, Pink Floyd, Rick James and more.
"I thought Richard Pryor was my daddy for a long time," Badu said in the interview. "It's the only male voice I heard in the house."
Badu dived into her experience with Vogue on WFAA's "Good Morning Texas" on Wednesday. She said she's proud of all that she's done so far and there's still much potential for the future.
"I'm so grateful. It just means a lot to be able to see your vision through," she said.
The 51-year-old also talked about not only her 25-year career and the things she's learned in life, but also her love of bringing in new life as a doula.
"I like being the welcoming committee," Badu said on GMT. "It seems that my contract is with the babies that are coming through; to make sure that everything is peaceful and calm, and the parents are at peace and the support is the way it should be because it's maybe one of the most important ceremonies and rituals that we have."
You can check out Erykah Badu's many stories on Vogue now, including a look inside her at-home studio (aka the "Badudio"), the rise of her neo-soul style, and a few facts you may not have known about her.
