Enjoy the dry weather while it lasts! Changes ahead for the weekend

Winter weather (ice and snow) will happen across far west Texas, the Texas Panhandle, and western Oklahoma Friday into Saturday.

TODAY

Mostly sunny but staying cool. Afternoon temps will only be in the mid-50s. Clouds will likely increase late in the day, but no rain.

THURSDAY

Definitely more clouds across North Texas, and temps stay cool. Once again highs only in the 50s. Some passing showers are possible by afternoon into evening, but heavy rain not likely.

FRIDAY

Rain likely. Lots of clouds and chilly temps. Highs likely won't make it out of the 40s. Some rain could be heavy and isolated t-storms are possible. Even with a few t-storms, severe storms are unlikely. Widespread flooding issues are not expected, but some swelling of creeks and streams is possible along with some localized flooding of low-lying areas.

FRIDAY NIGHT

Widespread rain and chilly temps continue.

SATURDAY

Widespread rain continues especially during the morning hours. Rain starts to lighten up by afternoon into evening. Best chances for lingering rain during the afternoon and evening will be the northern half of North Texas. Staying chilly. Afternoon temps in the 40s.

SUNDAY

No more rain but chilly. Morning temps in the 30s. Afternoon temps in the 40s. Anyone running in the Dallas Marathon will need to dress warm!

RAIN TOTALS

Looks like everyone will see rain from this event, and likely another soaker for parts of the area. Totals will range from 1-3in for western/northwestern North Texas, 2-4in for the DFW area and central North Texas, and 3-5in for eastern and southern North Texas.

BUT I'M HEARING ABOUT WINTRY WEATHER...

Winter weather (ice and snow) will happen across far west Texas, the Texas Panhandle, and western Oklahoma Friday into Saturday. Travel problems are very likely in those areas during that time-frame. For North Texas, while it will be chilly, temps are not looking cold enough for wintry weather. The one exception is far western, far northwestern North Texas, and Red River areas, where late Saturday afternoon into evening can't rule out some flurries or sleet pellets. Even if this occurs, it will be too warm near the ground to cause any accumulation or icy spots.
