DALLAS -- The first public law school in Dallas may not be accredited because too many of its students are struggling.
The American Bar Association confirms that its Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar is advising against accreditation for the University of North Texas Dallas College of Law. A letter was sent to officials, the ABA said.
Only graduates of accredited schools can take the Texas Bar exam. School leaders plan to go before a council of the bar association to argue their case.
The UNT Dallas College of Law's website has a page dedicated to its accreditation status. The page was last modified in June.
"The Dean and administration of the UNT Dallas College of Law are committed to devoting all necessary resources, and in other respects taking all necessary steps, to provide a program of legal education that will qualify for approval by the ABA. The College of Law does not make any representation to any applicant that it will be approved by the ABA before the graduation of any matriculating students," the website states.
The other nine law schools in Texas are accredited.
