PILOT POINT, Texas — The superintendent of the Pilot Point Independent School District has resigned from his position, according to a statement from the school board.
The statement from the school board did not clarify a reason for Todd Southard's sudden resignation, but stated they and Southard “have entered into the agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and in the best interest of the district.”
The statement continued to read:
"On behalf of the entire District, the Board of Trustees expresses its sincere appreciation to Mr. Southard for his efforts while serving as Superintendent of this great school district and its wonderful students, parents and administrators and for the many achievements and accomplishments of the entire District team during Mr. Southard's tenure as Superintendent, notably:
- Passed the first bond in the District in 18 years;
- Increased starting teacher salaries from $43,500 to $50,000 in two years;
- Created Pilot Point Police Department
- Successfully managed a $20M annual budget; and
- Created free all-day Pre-K for all students regardless of income
The statement says the board will begin its search for a new superintendent soon.
