HILLSBORO, Texas — Hillsboro ISD is moving to a four-day school week for the 2024-2025 school year.
The Hillsboro ISD board of trustees approved the four-day school week calendar Monday. District officials say they hope the change will help them attract teaching candidates.
"Ensuring the best teachers for our students is paramount. The adopted calendar provides our dedicated staff with an additional planning day, fostering an environment of continuous improvement,” said Hillsboro ISD superintendent Darrell Brown in a statement.
The district, located about 60 miles southwest of Dallas, has nearly 2,000 students, according to its website.
The district conducted a survey of district staff members, parents, and community members to get input on the calendar in February.
“The adopted calendar incorporated changes based on valuable feedback received from families and staff from the calendar survey,” said Brown. “The biggest modification was ending the school year on Friday, May 24, before Memorial Day.”
Other North Texas school districts that have implemented a four-day instructional week include Mineral Wells ISD, Anna ISD, Gainesville ISD and Venus ISD.
Decatur ISD trustees recently considered a four-day instructional week for the 2024-2025 school year but opted against it.
