Fort Worth ISD cancels classes for elementary school due to gas leak near campus

The district said in a statement that the school would be closed on Friday, Jan. 19 due to the repairs and "out of an abundance of caution."

FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth ISD canceled classes Friday for one of its elementary schools after a reported gas leak near the campus.

The district said it was notified of the gas leak on Thursday. Atmos Energy told WFAA its technicians responded to an odor call from 3320 W. Cantey Street.

"Due to the necessary repairs, which may impact water and heat availability in our campus Alice Carlson Applied Learning Center, and out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to cancel school for Alice Carlson Applied Learning Center for tomorrow, January 19," the district said in a statement.

Atmos Energy said no evacuations were issued at the location and they were working to make the necessary repairs. Fort Worth ISD said it would provide updates to parents as they collaborate with the gas company to "facilitate a safe return to campus."

"Parents, we acknowledge that this decision may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize for any disruption to your routines. Our primary goal is to ensure your safety, and we felt it was crucial to communicate this information promptly," the district said.
