Frost ISD cancels classes for the week due to an uptick in student illnesses

The district says classes will resume on Monday, Feb. 12.

FROST, Texas — A Navarro County school district sent students home for the week due to an uptick in illnesses.

Frost ISD posted the update on Facebook announcing the cancelation of classes for the rest of this week to mitigate the spread of germs among students and staff.

"Our custodial staff will be working on the days we are out to sanitize the building and all surfaces in hopes of stopping the spread of illness," the post stated.

The fall and winter months are commonly known as “flu season”, with cases of seasonal influenza usually reaching their highest numbers during that time. The Texas Department of State Health Services recently launched a Respiratory Illness Interactive Dashboard, which shows trends in COVID-19 and RSV, as well as influenza.

The district says all athletic events will continue to take place, as long as athletes are well enough to compete. However, the Daddy-Daughter dance and the little dribbler's practice games will be rescheduled.

Classes will resume on Monday, Feb. 12. The 100th day of school will also be celebrated on that day.

"We understand this is an inconvenience, and we apologize. Thank you for being supportive of our efforts to keep our staff and students safe and healthy," the district said.
