JUSTIN, Texas — Renderings released by the Northwest Independent School District showcase the vision behind the expansion at two high school campuses.

“To best meet the needs of their 6A student populations, Byron Nelson and V.R. Eaton high schools will soon undergo expansions to extracurricular areas and cafeterias,” the district said in a statement on their website.

Byron Nelson HS is located on Bobcat Blvd. in Trophy Club and Eaton HS is located on Eagle Blvd. in Haslet.

As Northwest ISD continues to finalize the details with developers the updates include new football stadiums, auditoriums and cafeterias. During a meeting earlier this month, Northwest ISD trustees reviewed the preliminary renderings approved by voters in the 2023 bond referendum.

The trustees decided to build two new football venues: Bobcat Stadium at Byron Nelson HS and Eagle Stadium at Eaton HS.

"The committee unanimously agreed that home stadiums would reduce time away from the classroom to travel to district stadiums and provide a strong foundation for community atmosphere," the district said.

Currently, Northwest ISD high schools play home games at the NIISD Stadium near Northwest High School.

The stadium at each school will remain in the same general location as the school’s existing sub-varsity field, with some alterations. Each stadium will seat 7,500 people, with 4,500 seats on the home side and 3,000 seats on the visitor side. Full press boxes, concession areas and similar features are planned for both stadiums.

Each high school auditorium will be expanded with additional seats, but the expansion will look different at each school. At Byron Nelson, balcony seating will be added, while Eaton will expand seating over the existing lobby, with a new lobby being created as the facility will extend slightly further into the existing outdoor courtyard, the district said.

The upgrades will add at least 400 seats at each venue.

The gymnasium at both schools will be expanded to feature a “horseshoe” shape, providing an area with extra seating throughout the venue, Northwest ISD said. Both new seating areas will be added in the area where the existing entry and concessions are located.

Byron Nelson’s arena will extend the entry of the facility to the front of the school, while Eaton’s arena will extend the entry toward the outdoor courtyard.

Both entry foyers will feature updated designs to showcase school spirit.

In addition, Northwest ISD said to meet 6A capacities both schools will expand their cafeterias by about 3,000 square feet.

The district said timelines for projects at both schools are still being finalized. However, Northwest ISD said the goal of completion would be "no later than early 2027."
