Seven North Texas schools named National Blue Ribbon awardees

Seven schools in North Texas were given National Blue Ribbon distinction by the U.S. Department of Education.

DALLAS — The U.S. Department of Education awarded five North Texas schools National Blue Ribbon honors.

Three elementary schools, one junior high and four high schools were chosen as schools that excel in academic performance.

Here are all the North Texas schools receiving National Blue Ribbon distinction:

  • David Blair Elementary School - Farmer's Branch
  • Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic School - Plano
  • St. Philip's School & Community Center - Dallas
  • Hillsboro Junior High School - Hillsboro
  • Grapevine-Colleyville Collegiate Academy at Tarrant County College Northeast - Hurst
  • Neches High School - Palestine
  • De Leon High School - De Leon

“The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities. As we celebrate their achievements, let us look to these schools for inspiration as we champion education as the foundation of a brighter future for every child.”

In total, 31 Texas schools from around the state earned the national distinction. Of the 31, 19 are elementary schools, three are middle schools, seven are high schools and two are K-12.

“A National Blue Ribbon Award signifies a superior level of academic success and growth. Hillsboro Junior High School’s students and staff have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to raising the bar and cultivating ongoing student success,” said Darrell G. Brown, Ph.D., Superintendent of Hillsboro ISD. “I am very proud of everyone who helped make this award possible.”

“We are incredibly proud of Collegiate Academy's academic achievements, but even more so of the remarkable students we are sending out into the world,” GCISD Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz remarked. “These students are not just scholars – they are difference makers. The impact of this partnership has propelled them into the next chapter of their lives, equipping them to thrive in a competitive, ever-evolving world, thanks to the invaluable learning experiences they've gained.”
