DALLAS — Dallas Independent School District announced on July 2 that all students would be required to carry a clear or mesh backpack next year. But what about other school districts across North Texas?
Dallas ISD started requiring clear or mesh backpacks for 6 through 12 graders in 2022. In 2023, the school district extended the requirement to include all students.
Clear bag policies have been around for years, with some districts implementing them years ago and then rescinding them. For districts like Ennis ISD, its clear bag policy was put in place in 2018 and then revoked after a few months due to the bags quickly breaking from use.
Others, like Princeton ISD and Garland ISD, only have clear bag policies for school-sponsored events.
As school safety measures change in school districts, WFAA looked at clear backpack policies across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Check your district's website for their policy if it is not listed here.
