LEWISVILLE, Texas — The Lewisville ISD board is meeting Monday night and the "School Retirement and Boundary Adjustment Proposal" is the hot topic up for discussion.
Facing a budget shortage and declining enrollment, the district’s Community Efficiency Committee and board considered possible solutions and put a plan forward.
One elementary school from each high school feeder pattern is being considered for closure.
- Garden Ridge Elementary School
- Polser Elementary STEM Academy
- Creekside Elementary School
- Highland Village Elementary School
- B.B. Owen Elementary School
Lewisville ISD's final proposal regarding closing the five schools mentioned above can be found here.
There would also be boundary adjustments to re-zone the students who attend the shuttered schools to other campuses. If approved, the move would save Lewisville ISD $2.3 million per year as it receives less funding from the state for stagnant or declining enrollment.
WFAA spoke with parents who say they understand that something needs to be done, and their district is not unique in its struggles with funding and enrollment. Overall, they want to maintain the strong community that they believe has made LISD successful for so long.
The lack of funding isn't an issue exclusive to Lewisville ISD. Several districts in North Texas are facing the same problems and have had to consider or implement school closings and consolidations to save on cash.
The Lewisville ISD board is expected to take action in its meeting on December 9. Any changes are expected to take effect for the 2025-2026 school year.
