KELLER — Parents of Keller High School students received an apology letter from the school following a religious reference during a school presentation. But some parents maintain that administrators overreacted.
In the letter obtained by News 8, principal Michael Nasra explained that a speaker the school had hired to discuss stress alleviation allegedly used overt language to assert his own Christian beliefs during the talk on Monday.
The name of the presenter and the company he represents were not released Wednesday, but "the speaker in question is, reportedly, no longer employed with the company that sent him to present," Nasra stated in the letter to parents of juniors at the school.
Nasra went on to write that "the district fully evaluates organizations prior to allowing them to present to KISD students; unfortunately, the screening procedure was not successful in this case."

Many parents spoke out on social media sites like Facebook expressing their disappointment with the principal's decision to send the letter.
One parent argued that the religious reference — which the district declined to detail on Wednesday — was brief, and didn't warrant an apology from the school.
Officials with Keller ISD also sent News 8 this statement Wednesday:
In Keller ISD we embrace diversity and respect all beliefs. The District has used this professional speakers organization in the past and never experienced any problems. We are committed to improving our review process to ensure this doesn't happen again, and apologize for this unexpected incident.
