North Texas superintendent put on administrative leave months into the job amid investigation

On Wednesday, Grand Prairie ISD's Board of Trustees put Superintendent Jorge L. Arredondo on paid administrative leave "to protect the District," GPISD says.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A North Texas superintendent has been placed on administrative leave just three months into the job.

Wednesday, the Grand Prairie ISD Board of Trustees announced that Superintendent Jorge L. Arredondo had been placed on paid administrative leave, effective immediately.

Arredondo was named lone finalist for GPISD superintendent on May 28, and has been on the district's payroll since July 8.

The board voted 5-2 on the decision at a special Wednesday meeting. In a statement to WFAA, the board said the move was made "in order to protect the District and Dr. Arredondo."

The two dissenting votes came from trustees Gloria Carillo and David Espinosa. At the meeting, Espinosa described the move as "a witch hunt driven by political malice."

“Because this is an ongoing investigation, there will be no additional comment from this Board,” Board President Amber Moffitt said. “We believe all parties will be treated fairly with a high level of professionalism by the outside third-party law firm that is conducting the investigation.”

While Arredondo is on leave, Deputy Superintendent of Business Operations Tracy Ray will serve as acting superintendent.

This is a developing story. WFAA will update this article with the latest information.
