ENNIS, Texas — Ennis ISD announced Thursday they will not be holding classes on April 8, the day of the total solar eclipse.

"As you are aware, there will be a total solar eclipse on this day that only occurs at any given place every 360-410 years," a statement by Ennis ISD said. "Ennis will be directly on the center line meaning we will experience a longer duration of totality than almost all of the surrounding areas."

The statement says the city is predicting as many as 200,000 people will be visiting the town, and the district predicts many Ennis ISD staff members and families will choose to experience that eclipse as opposed to attending school that day. Traffic issues could also hinder afternoon student transportation due to the amount of visitors.

Ennis ISD says it will be sharing more information on how parents can safely experience the event as it approaches.

More information on the eclipse and events around the city can be found here.
