School for the Talented & Gifted, a magnet school in Dallas, grabbed the No. 1 ranking in Niche's annual list of the top 20 public high schools in Dallas-Fort Worth.
The ranking is based on an analysis of key statistics and reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, teacher quality and high school ratings. SAT and ACT scores were removed from this year's ranking to reflect a general de-emphasis on test scores in the college admissions process, according to Niche, a company that compiles data on educational institutions.
