ARLINGTON, Texas — An Arlington ISD security officer was removed from campus after they left their duty belt unattended in a school bathroom, the district said.

An armed security officer contracted with the district through Tier One Security left their duty belt unattended around 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Jones Academy of Fine Arts and Dual Language, according to a statement from Arlington ISD.

The belt was found by 1:31 p.m. by a staff member who reported it. No students entered the bathroom with the unattended gun, the district said.

The security officer was removed from employment with the district, the statement reads. A new security officer has since been placed at the school.

"The Arlington ISD appreciates the swift action taken by Tier One to remove the campus security officer from the district and immediately address protocols with their staff members," the district said in an email to parents.

A similar incident occurred last year at an Allen ISD elementary school, when a security guard left his gun unattended in an adult bathroom, WFAA previously reported. Texas law requires that schools employ armed security guards.
