DENTON — Response times in the city of Denton just got better Friday.

The Denton Fire Department announced the addition of a sixth front line ambulance. The new addition to the fleet will be housed at fire Station 7, located at 4201 Vantage Parkway.

Emergency medical service (EMS) calls account for 70 percent of the total responses delivered by the fire department. Kenneth Hedges, with the city of Denton, tells News 8 the new ambulance will enhance service levels to the southwestern portion of Denton.

The additional ambulance is staffed with employees who are certified firefighters and paramedics. The unit consists of two highly trained two-person fire and rescue teams to assist in firefighting operations.

The city council made funding for improved response times in southwest Denton a top priority in the last budget cycle. Mayor Chris Watts says the city remains committed to delivering excellent public safety services to the entire community.
