Deep Ellum visitors on alert with murder suspects still on the run

A week after a man was shot and killed in the popular arts district, one suspect has been arrested, two others have not.

DALLAS — One suspect is behind bars, but Dallas police are still looking two others in connection with last week’s shooting death of Adam Lozano, 29, in Deep Ellum. The incident has people who frequent the district worried about safety.

“This should be a place where people hang out and have a good time, but then tragedies happen like that,” said Charity Timmons, standing in the same parking lot where Lozano was shot.

Three people followed him from a nearby 7-Eleven and shot him early in the morning on June 22nd, police said.

“I think that is a really sad tragedy and I wish that wouldn’t have happened,” Timmons said.

Police released surveillance video showing the three suspects. The mother of De'Andre Wright, 17, called the police after she recognized her son in the video, according to a warrant.

The teen turned himself in and told investigators he was with Kelsey Young, 17, and Jasmine Williams, 29, but claimed he didn’t know they were planning to commit a crime, police said.

Wright then told investigators Young fired the shots that killed Lozano, according to a warrant.

It happened around 3:00 a.m. in Deep Ellum near popular bars and restaurants.

“The atmosphere is really fun,” Hannah Moer said. “It’s really busy, really lively, especially on the weekends."

While the deadly shooting is tragic, Moer said it’s not surprising.

“To be really honest, I’m not shocked,” Moer said. “It makes me really sad. It’s very heartbreaking. I hate that that type of stuff happens but this area, although it’s really fun and lively, it is kind of dangerous.”

With two suspects still on the run, Timmons urged people to be careful.

“Just make sure you stay in groups,” Timmons said. “Try to stay in lit up areas.  Just stay with your friends and try not to leave them.”

She’s not the only one on alert.

“I carry my keys in my hand when I walk to my car,” Moer said. “I carry pepper spray on me.”

Arrests warrants for capital murder charges were issued for all three suspects.

Anyone with information about Williams or Young are urged to call the police.
