CONROE, Texas — Residents of an apartment complex in Conroe were shocked by the stabbing death of a woman who was sitting at a picnic table Saturday afternoon.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office on Sunday identified the suspect as 24-year-old Miles Joseph Fridrich. He's been charged with first-degree murder. Fridrich was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
A witness told KHOU 11 she heard the victim screaming around 12:30 p.m. and then saw EMTs working on her, but she didn't survive.
“I was outside and I heard a woman out there, and I heard that she was screaming. She was sitting at the picnic table.” the woman said.
Talat Jehan Khan, 52, died from multiple stab wounds at the Alys Apartments on Mansions View Dr., Conroe police confirmed.
The witness said Khan had been sitting at the table and talking on the phone with her dog nearby when the man "came out of nowhere."
Fridrich reportedly ran away from the scene but was caught a short time later.
"Witnesses on scene gave a good description of the suspect and his direction of travel," police said in a statement. "Officers quickly set up a perimeter and were able to locate and detain the suspect a short distance away on Johnson-Martin Rd."
“All for nothing. You know, it can’t be that bad that you kill a person, I just don’t get that," the witness said. "It’s horrible, it’s horrible, it’s a life."
