WATAUGA, Texas — A woman was hit by a stray bullet in her Watauga apartment Friday afternoon, police say.
Police responded to a shots fired call at an apartment complex in the 6700 block of Park Vista Boulevard and say witnesses reported hearing about five gunshots, then a person fleeing the area in a white passenger car.
As police searched the area, the Watauga Fire Department responded to a nearby apartment complex, where they say a stray bullet hit a resident.
Officials say the woman was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition.
“While details are still unfolding, preliminary assessments indicate that this was a specific, targeted incident, and there is no immediate threat to the public,” police said in a news release. “The Watauga Police Department would like to clarify that, based on the preliminary investigation, this was not a drive-by shooting. We urge anyone with additional information to come forward and assist in the investigation.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
