PARADISE, Texas — A 33-year-old man was arrested after shooting a man in the home of his estranged wife and leaving with two children, police said.

An Amber Alert was issued for the two children, aged 2 and 6 years old, but was canceled after they were found safe in a nearby home, according to a press release from the Wise County Sherriff's office.

The Wise County Sherriff's Office responded to a shooting at 4:50 a.m. near Paradise, the release states. A woman told deputies that her estranged husband came into her home and shot another 33-year-old man before leaving with two children.

The shooting victim was airlifted to a hospital, police said. Officials did not release any additional information about his condition.

The two children were found safe in a nearby home two hours later, officials said. The suspect's vehicle was stopped at about 8:15 a.m. near Clarendon on US 287, according to the release. The suspect was arrested and jailed in Donley County, police said.

The Wise County Sheriff's Office and Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
