DALLAS, Texas — An arson investigation is ongoing after a fire in a Dallas neighborhood Monday evening.
Neighbors near 3900 Gilbert Ave. in the Turtle Creek area of Dallas are keeping a lookout after two people were seen leaving an area that quickly went up in smoke Monday just after 5 p.m.
Security footage tells the tale. A man and a woman are seen walking down an alley until they go through a fenced gate that backs up to a row of pricey condos.
The two spend some time by the gate and then leave the area. Minutes later, the fenceline starts to smoke, and flames rise. Neighbors recorded what happened after—flames filled the alleyway, and smoke was visible for blocks until members of Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived to douse the fire. Dallas Fire-Rescue says they had the fire extinguished as of shortly after 7 p.m. Monday.
It was a close call; no harm was done aside from a charred fence. However, neighbors told WFAA that at least one homeowner had to evacuate, though Frankie McLister told WFAA that the flames threatened more than just homes.
"The fire was starting to deteriorate a gas line--you can see a new meter had to be put in. We as a community are so grateful for Dallas Fire-Rescue right now," McLister said.
As for the security footage--investigators with Dallas Fire-Rescue have it and are seeing if the two are connected.
Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed an active arson investigation is ongoing.
