SAN ANTONIO — A Killeen, Texas, mother was arrested after her 16-month-old was found hanging outside of a window being protected by a dog while she was on a date hours away in San Antonio, arrest records allege.

At around 10 a.m. on July 28, the Killeen Police Department responded to an apartment located in the 600 block of West Hallmark after receiving reports of a child "hanging out of a broken window" while "an aggressive dog was trying to attack the child," according to an arrest affidavit.

Upon arrival, officers found the child with his head and shoulders hanging from a first-story window while a dog outside was charging at other residents attempting to help the toddler.

Officers got into the home and found the toddler wearing a T-shirt and nothing else. There was reportedly visible feces on the victim, along with signs of a possible diaper rash.

Police did a sweep of the home to discover that the toddler was alone in the apartment with two dogs, one of which was helping protect the toddler as it hung from the window.

According to the affidavit, the responding officers determined "precautions had been taken to leave the victim alone without a sitter," referencing closed doors and "a baby gate blocking of the kitchen area." The deadbolt on the door was also reportedly locked.

The mother of the victim was identified as Reese Louise Myers. She told authorities she was on a date in San Antonio, nearly 150 miles away, with a man she met on the dating app Hinge. She also reportedly told authorities she had Facebook messaged a babysitter she used in the past, but that woman was able to prove to police that she hadn't been in contact with Myers for months.

Myers is now facing child endangerment charge(s) as a result of the incident.
