RICHARDSON, Texas — Police have been made aware of a post circulating on social media about a threat of a shooting on Friday at JJ Pearce High School in Richardson, officials say.

In a statement, Richardson ISD said no threats have been substantiated at this point.

"One student has been identified and investigated," Richardson ISD said in a statement. "There have been no other reported threats on campus this past week and no weapons confiscated on campus either."

Richardson PD said they increased the police presence in and around JJ Pearce HS Friday as a precautionary measure.

Richardson ISD sent two messages to parents regarding the threat.

"We did have a student temporarily detained in handcuffs and questioned on campus this morning, but he was subsequently released to his family when it was determined that he was not involved," Richardson ISD said in the letter.

Richardson ISD said the student was never on campus Friday and criminal charges have been filed.

"As we have shared a number of times with students and parents, making an online threat against a school is a crime and in RISD it will be investigated in every instance, regardless of intent," the district said in a letter to parents. "This student now faces charges related to making a threatening post, as well as being removed from PHS under the RISD Student Code of Conduct."

In recent weeks, multiple North Texas school districts have called for added police patrols near campuses after a surge of social media posts threatening violence. None of those threats were deemed not credible.
