Suspect in 48-hour bank robbery spree surrenders in East Dallas

Police surrounded a home in East Dallas after tips led authorities to a suspect in a series of bank robberies that took place over a 48-hour period.

Police surrounded a home in the Exall Park area of East Dallas after an investigation led them to a suspect in a series of bank robberies that took place over a 48-hour period.

The area was evacuated Thursday evening as SWAT attempted to locate the suspect. Two men eventually exited the surrounded home and both were handcuffed. However, Lt. Yancy Nelson, a spokesman with Dallas police, said only one suspect was taken into custody.

Yancy said the first bank robbery took place at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at a Compass Bank in Dallas. Then three other Dallas-area banks, including another Compass location, a Chase bank and Wells Fargo bank, were targeted Thursday.

Yancy said the man taken into custody is believed to be a suspect in all four robberies. In at least one robbery the suspect allegedly displayed a weapon, which was never fired.

The identity of the suspect hasn't yet been released.
