Student hospitalized after stabbing at East Dallas high school

Two sources confirmed to WFAA that a teenage student was stabbed by another student in a school bathroom.

DALLAS — A student at a Dallas high school has been hospitalized after another student stabbed them in a bathroom, sources say.

Two sources confirmed to WFAA that a teenage student was stabbed by another student in a bathroom at Woodrow Wilson High School in East Dallas. Dallas ISD confirmed that two students were involved in an altercation on campus, and that one student sustained "superficial cuts."

Sources told WFAA that a small pocket knife was used in the altercation.

The student who was stabbed was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, sources tell WFAA. Dallas ISD told WFAA that the student is expected to make a full recovery.

Sources told WFAA that the student who allegedly committed the stabbing is in custody at Dallas ISD headquarters.

In a letter to parents, Principal Chandra Hooper-Barnett wrote:

"This afternoon, we initiated our safety protocol after a student received superficial wounds during an on-campus altercation involving a small knife. Emergency services immediately responded and the student was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other student was taken into custody off campus and will be disciplined according to the Student Code of Conduct. As a precaution, police presence remained on site."

In the letter, Principal Hooper-Barnett also assured parents mental health clinicians would be available for anyone who needs them.
