Two students are in custody after a firearm was found on campus Monday at North Forney High School, authorities said.
One student was found in possession of a gun that was "accidentally discharged" in the school Monday, officials said. That student was arrested, according to the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office.
A second student who had been detained was later found to not be involved and was released.
The high school was briefly placed on lockdown "for precautionary measures" earlier in the day Monday.
Authorities said students and staff members were not threatened and no one was injured.
“We know today has been difficult for students and staff at North Forney High School, but we are grateful that everyone is safe,” Forney ISD Superintendent Justin Terry said in a written statement.
Terry said all safety procedures went smoothly.
"Everyone is going home safe today," Terry said in the statement.
