Man accused of shooting, injuring 3 at State Fair of Texas indicted by Dallas County grand jury

According to court documents, 22-year-old Cameron Alexander Turner has been indicted for three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

DALLAS — Editor's note: Above video previously aired after Turner's arrest in October.

The man accused of shooting and injuring three people at the State Fair of Texas in October has been indicted by a Dallas County grand jury Tuesday.

According to court documents, 22-year-old Cameron Alexander Turner has been indicted for three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the Oct. 14 shooting inside of a food court at the fair.

An affidavit released on Oct. 16 revealed that Turner told police he was trying to protect his family when he was approached by “a group of big males.” He then went into “defense mode” and fired three to four shots, the affidavit said.

Three victims were shot -- identified by police as Cade Kelly, Stephen Wright and Andrea Silva.

The arrest affidavit said video footage of the incident reportedly showed Turner buying a water bottle from a concession stand in the food court without his family next to him. Men are seen approaching Turner from a distance in the video, the affidavit stated. Turner’s family was not seen in the video, police said.

When Turner turned around to leave the stand, police said he could be seen exchanging words with one of the shooting's victims, identified by police as Kelly. Police said the video didn't show Kelly with anything in his hands, nor did it show him grabbing for anything while talking to Turner.

Police said Turner then reached for a handgun and fired shots at Kelly.

Turner then fled from the scene before being arrested by two state troopers who were working at the fair, as well as a Dallas police officer.

Following the incident, which not only sent fairgoers into a panic but also resulted in an early closure of the fair, the event's safety protocols were also called into question -- particularly surrounding how Turner got a gun into the fairgrounds.

Turner is currently being held in the Dallas County jail on a $1.6 million bond.
