GARLAND, Texas — Garland police have arrested two teenage suspects after a reported shooting Wednesday afternoon in a shopping center parking lot.
Police say the shooting happened shortly after 3 p.m. near the intersection of Broadway Blvd. and Centerville Road. Several people reportedly met at a restaurant on Broadway Blvd. where a physical altercation occurred, police say. Afterward, two people left in a vehicle, traveling to a shopping center parking lot near E. Centerville Road.
The other people involved followed them, and one suspect reportedly began firing a gun while driving, police say.
Thursday afternoon, Garland PD located the suspect's vehicle, a white Nissan Sentra, traveling on US Highway 80 near Gus Thomasson Road. When officers tried to pull the driver over, he accelerated, initiating a short chase, police said.
The chase ended when the Nissan Sentra crashed on Interstate 30 near Jim Miller Road. Inside the vehicle were an unidentified driver and the two suspects involved in Wednesday's shooting: a 15-year-old Hispanic male, and a 17-year-old Hispanic male.
The 15-year-old is charged with two counts of Deadly Conduct, Tampering with a Witness, and Evading Arrest.
The 17-year-old suspect is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, two counts of Deadly Conduct, Tampering with a Witness, and Evading Arrest.
Both suspects were taken into custody at the Garland Detention Center.
Police say the suspects involved are students or former students from South Garland High School.
The investigation is still active.
