ROYSE CITY, Texas — With just days left in the school year, a 14-year-old student is being charged for alleged threats made against Royse City High School on Monday.
Authorities said that Royse City PD received notification of a threat of violence while the student was in class. The department did not disclose the exact nature of the threat.
"The threat was immediately reported to the school administration and to one of the School Resource Officers on campus," police said in a news release.
No weapons were found when police were taking the student into custody. The student's identity was not released.
Royse City PD said after speaking with school officials and the student's parents, they didn't believe the student intended to carry out the threat. However, since a threat was made the student is being charged with Terroristic Threat, a Class B Misdemeanor.
"We ask parents to speak with their children about making or posting any comments regarding school threats or violence. Please help them to understand that making these types of statements can result in serious ramifications including criminal charges being filed," the department said.
