Sources say the suspect fired shots at police. Dallas police have confirmed the suspect is dead.

RICHARDSON, Texas — A man suspected of murder engaged in a car chase with police is dead after reportedly firing shots at officers and one of his passengers on Monday, according to Richardson's police chief.

Police sources identified the suspect involved as Donald Ingram, who family members say was wanted in the murder of his wife, Michelle Ingram.

According to Richardson Police Chief Gary Tittle, a Richardson officer tried to pull Ingram over around 3:50 p.m. Monday after their plates matched those tied to a murder in Kaufman County, but the suspect fled.

Chief Tittle says that started a chase, where Ingram fired multiple rounds at the Richardson officer's car. According to Richardson PD, at least one of its officers fired back during the chase.

During the chase, Ingram allegedly shot the female passenger twice, according to Chief Tittle. Tittle says at the end of the pursuit, Ingram fatally shot himself. at U.S. Highway 75 and Esperanza Road. When officers approached the vehicle, they attempted to save Ingram's life, but he died, Tittle told WFAA.

Tittle claims officers then gave medical attention to the female passenger, who was taken to a local hospital. According to Richardson PD, there were other three passengers in the car: a 17-year-old, a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old.

DPD has confirmed they are assisting Richardson police in the incident and conducting a criminal investigation into the shooting. The Dallas County DA was also at the scene and is performing a joint investigation, according to Chief Tittle.

US-75 experienced hours of delays as traffic in the area built over the hours-long investigation.

Chief Tittle told WFAA that one officer has been placed on administrative leave. Richardson PD stated that no officers were harmed.
