PRINCETON, Texas — A Princeton police officer was shot while responding to a call overnight, police said in a press release.
Officials said the officer was in stable condition Thursday morning, but more information about his condition was not released.
Police responded to reports of an assault around 3:02 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at a 7-Eleven located at 1610 E Princeton Drive, the release states. An officer located the suspect near Dahlia Way and Princeton Crossroads, near Princeton City Hall, shortly after the assault was reported to police.
The suspect allegedly attacked the officer with a weapon, leading to both men being shot, the release stated. It was not clear based on the information police provided who was responsible for the shooting. Both men were taken to a hospital and are in stable condition, police said.
The suspect will be charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, the release stated. Police did not immediately release any additional information about the suspect or the officer who was shot.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident, police said.
