CARROLLTON — A well-known fish and aquarium store owner was shot to death over the weekend in what police are calling a burglary gone wrong.
Early Saturday morning, Carrollton police responded to a burglary call at Dynamic Reef Systems on Lemay Drive.
They found "evidence" of a serious crime and break-in, according to Sgt. Brian Box.
"After an investigation all day, we found a person of interest working nearby," he said.
Police say an employee of a vapor store a block away, Andrew Gibson, initially refused to comply when they tried to search the store. A SWAT team was brought in before Gibson was eventually taken into custody.
He's being held at the Denton County Jail on a capital murder charge with no bond.
The victim has been identified as Alfred Armour, 37, the owner of Dynamic Reef. His body was located in Flower Mound.
The company's Facebook page is filled with glowing reviews about Armour's love for his business. His sister posted a "rest in peace" message on her personal page late Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, this GoFundMe page has been set up to help Armour's family.
Box says the area is popular with small businesses.
"We have good economic development within our city," he said. "Those guys tend to thrive well in our city. Having a crime like this is definitely something we don't want."
Police say it isn't clear if the two men knew each other. The investigation continues.
Dynamic Reef remained boarded up Sunday night.
