New details revealed in police shooting in Benbrook

Police responded to the apartment in the 5600 block of Bel-Aire Drive in Benbrook shortly before noon July 24.

BENBROOK, Texas — An armed man who refused to allow a woman and children to leave a Benbrook apartment last week was fatally shot by police, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Police responded to the apartment in the 5600 block of Bellaire Drive South shortly before noon July 24 after the woman called to report she was in the apartment with children and her adult son, who was refusing to allow them to leave the apartment, officials say.

The suspect, identified as Kenneth Brandon MacArthur Woods, 36, fired multiple shots inside the apartment while officers were on scene, police say.

Woods, who was armed with a handgun, jumped from a second-floor window, and once outside, officers told him to remove his hands from the gun, but Woods didn't comply, and police shot Woods, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Woods was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials say.

The investigation remains ongoing.

In addition to Benbrook PD, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and Ranger Division are on scene. The shooting is being investigated by the Texas Rangers, police said.

No further information was released.
