DALLAS -- A Parkland Memorial Hospital employee ended up as a patient in the ER when her purse was stolen in a hospital lot and then was dragged by the suspects' vehicle.
The woman was heading into work around 4:30 a.m. Friday when a dark-colored sedan drove up behind her and the passenger reached out and grabbed her purse, Capt. Dan Birbeck, Dallas County Hospital District police.
The victim's arm was caught in the purse strap, and was dragged a short distance before being treated and released from the hospital.
Police say the suspects' drove a four-door, dark-colored sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, with missing hubcaps on the front passenger side and back driver side wheels.
"For us, it's extremely important, we take this very personal. Parkland is a big family and anytime you hurt one of us, you hurt all of us," said Birbeck.
Police aren't sure how the suspects drove into the employee-only lot, which requires a badge to enter, said Birbeck. They are ramping up patrols in the area.
Birbeck said there are multiple surveillance cameras in the lot and surrounding areas, emergency call boxes, and a shuttle that can take employees to and from the lot. Employees can also request police escorts.
A DART station is located between the parking lot and the hospital, so multiple people are coming and going at any given time.
