FORT WORTH, Texas — An off-duty Fort Worth police officer shot a man multiple times after an attempted hit-and-run.
Fort Worth PD told WFAA that off-duty FWPD officer, now identified as William Martin, called 911 after being involved in a hit-and-run around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
FWPD said Martin told the 911 operator that the driver hit his car with a red Ford F-150 on I-35W SB near E. Morningside Drive and then drove off. According to the statement, Martin started following the truck.
Martin then told the 911 operator that the driver tried to ram into his car. Police say Martin then shot at the man multiple times.
Eventually, the driver of the Ford F-150, who has not been identified, stopped over five miles down the Interstate near Bellvue Drive, police say.
FWPD said multiple of Martin's shots hit the driver, who was taken to a local hospital. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, according to a police statement.
The Fort Worth Police Department told WFAA they are investigating the incident. Officer Martin has been reassigned to an administrative position, where they have no police power, per FWPD.
This is not Martin's first time facing departmental consequences. He was also placed on administrative duty in 2016 following the controversial arrest of Jacqueline Craig.
Fort Worth Police also told WFAA that no one involved has been placed under arrest, yet, as the investigation continues.
This is a developing story. WFAA will provide updates to this article as we learn more.
