Two North Texans have been shot and killed in Baton Rouge, police in that eastern Louisiana community said Saturday.

The victims were identified as 23-year-old Brandi Gilbert of Plano and 23-year-old Corrin Rayford of Grapevine, both of whom have criminal records.

A statement on the police department's Facebook page said the women were found dead Friday in a car parked along the side of the road in a residential section of southeast Baton Rouge.

Lyle Hitzman said he suspected something wasn't right.

"There was a car parked on the side of the road with its door open, and I thought that rather strange," he said. "About 15 minutes later, I went out and it was still there, so I called the police and said, 'Police, please come and check."

Police said there are no known suspects or motives, and they urged anyone with information about the crime to contact authorities.
