North Texas women arrested after DPS finds undocumented immigrants in trunk of car

Video shows troopers popping the trunk of the vehicle and discovering a man and a woman stashed inside.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Two Fort Worth women were arrested after a trooper pulled over their vehicle and discovered two migrants crammed inside the car’s trunk, authorities said.

The trooper made the traffic stop on Wednesday, Sept. 11 along U.S. 277 in Kinney County, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a video posted on social media. Kinney County is located about two hours southwest of San Antonio and is about 13 miles from the US-Mexico border.

During an interview with the driver, the trooper said Vanesa Gutierrez "consented to a search of the trunk." DPS didn't immediately release what prompted deputies to search the trunk.

Troopers popped the trunk of the vehicle and discovered two undocumented immigrants stashed inside. Authorities also found a handgun inside the car, the department said.

Gutierrez and the passenger Crisol Bernice Reyes were arrested and facing human smuggling charges.

The migrants were referred to the U.S. Border Patrol.
