Man arrested, charged with arson after allegedly setting his girlfriend's house on fire in North Texas

According to officials, the house sustained significant damage to due the heat and smoke.

WYLIE, Texas — A 46-year-old McKinney resident, Kevin Ragsdale, is in jail in Wylie, Texas, after allegedly setting his girlfriend's house on fire Tuesday night. 

According to a press release from both Wyle Police and Fire Rescue, crews responded to the report of a structure fire at the Redwood Mobile Home Park around 8:47 p.m. 

Officials said the fire was called in by a neighbor who saw flames coming from the front window. 

According to the release, the fire was brought under control within 21 minutes from the time it was reported. 

Officials said the homeowner was not home at the time of the fire. However, she told police and fire rescue that she believed her boyfriend, Ragsdale, may have started the fire.

According to the release, the Wylie Fire Marshal's Office opened an investigation with the help of Wylie PD and the Rockwall Fire Marshal Canine Unit. 

While crews were at the scene of the fire, Wyle Communications informed them that Ragsdale was in the custody of the Princeton Police Department. 

The release states that the Wylie Criminal Investigations Division got a warrant for Ragsdale, which charged him with violation of bond conditions. He was placed arrested and taken to Wylie Jail. 

According to the release, an additional warrant was obtained and it charged Ragsdale with arson of a habitation. 

Wylie Fire and Rescue said the home sustained significant damage from the heat and smoke. However, no injuries were reported. 

According to the release, the Fire Marshal's Office is continuing its investigation.
