COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — A North Texas man accused of killing his eight-year-old son last year has died, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Ponnazhakan Subramanian, 40, attempted suicide by hanging in his jail cell in early December, and he was taken to a McKinney hospital, where he died Jan. 20, according to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Subramanian fatally stabbed his son in January of 2023.
As WFAA reported at the time, police said a neighbor had called 911 to report that a woman had found her son unconscious and bleeding in a McKinney home.
When officers arrived, McKinney Police said, they found a man "in the act of inflicting self-harm with a knife." The child, 9, was found in the garage with multiple stab wounds, police said.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The father, later identified as Subramanian, was taken into custody and to a hospital for treatment before he was arraigned on a capital murder warrant.
Subramanian was being held in the Collin County Jail on a capital murder complaint. His trial was set to begin later this month, records show.
