There are new details about how Dallas Cowboys cornerback Bryan McCann ended up in handcuffs over the weekend.
McCann had been partying at the Plush nightclub in downtown Dallas early Saturday morning. McCann has said he was not drunk.
But Dallas police are painting a different picture.
Investigators have been reviewing this case since News 8 first reported the initial details on Saturday night.
Officers did write a detailed report on McCann's arrest, which is not expected to be released until Tuesday. News 8 has learned some of the contents of that report.
Police were called to Club Plush in downtown Dallas because McCann and a friend got into a dispute with someone at the bar.
McCann's friend was arrested by Dallas police because he was the one involved in the fight.
Officers said they repeatedly asked McCann to exit the area, giving him an opportunity to leave with his friends who were sober.
But police said McCann became belligerent, arguing with officers for more than 10 minutes. That's when he was arrested.
McCann was said to smell of alcohol. His speech was slurred and he had bloodshot eyes, according to police.
When he allegedly continued to interfere with police operations, the decision was made to take him to the drunk tank. Officers said McCann posed a threat to the safety of himself and others when he continued to refuse to comply with commands.
McCann issued a written statement on Sunday denying that he was drunk and saying he looks forward to clearing his name in a court of law.
Dallas police supervisors have been reviewing the details of this case along with video from the detox center. After requests from local and national news agencies, police planned to release additional documents on Tuesday.
If McCann is found guilty, he could face discipline by the NFL because even though players are currently locked out in a labor dispute, they still must follow the league's conduct policy.
