Murder victim's brother 'feels sorry' for 'Black Widow'

Michael Williams said his brother Gregg loved the woman who killed him

Michael Williams wants to remember his brother Gregg the way he looks in family photos — beaming from ear-to-ear.

But in court this past week, those happier memories were clouded, briefly, by a nightmare.

"I had to get up and leave after the photos of my brother, dead," Williams said. "It still just blows my mind."

On Tuesday, Michele Williams — referred to in headlines as the Keller "Black Widow" — was sentenced to six decades in prison after being found guilty of murdering her husband Gregg as he slept in their Keller bedroom in October 2011.

The case became known for all the lies she allegedly told. It started with her story to investigators that an intruder was responsible for killing her husband. She later said he had actually committed suicide. Then, according to sentencing testimony, she faked a pregnancy to remain free on bond.

For brother Michael, the seven hours of jury deliberation on the case were torture.

"I kept telling my mother, I said, 'Mom, wish for the best, but expect the worst,'" he told News 8.

And the moment the jury brought back a guilty verdict? "We squeezed each other's hands a little tighter," Williams said. "We were just so relieved."

That relief, however, was fleeting, Williams said, because Gregg is still gone.

Michael Williams chose not to speak at the sentencing; instead, his mother did.

"I'm not sure I could say anything to her," he said of Michele, who was married to his brother for five years. They had a daughter together. "I feel sorry for her; I feel sorry for the life she laid for herself."

But he feels saddest for the two daughters Gregg left behind. Girls stripped of a father, and now for one of them, stripped of a mother, too.

"Gregg touched a lot of people's lives," Williams said, "and we miss him very much."
