MESQUITE, Texas — Mesquite ISD has confirmed that the teenager shot and killed last week was a student at North Mesquite High School.
Officers responded to a shooting call around 11:59 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 in the 4800 block of North Galloway Avenue, Mesquite police said in a press release. Police found one victim with gunshot wounds and later died from their injuries, the release states.
The victim was later identified as 17-year-old Jarren Walker.
"We were notified by the Mesquite Police Department of his death in the early morning hours of Friday, Dec. 6. Counselors were made available for students throughout the day on Friday, and we remain focused on providing a safe and caring environment for all students as they cope with this loss," Mesquite ISD said in a statement Monday.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
