MESQUITE, Texas — A 21-year-old man who was charged with the fatal shooting of a man at a Dallas convenience store over the weekend has also been charged with the shooting death of a Carrollton man in Mesquite, police say.
Mesquite police were called about the shooting at about 11:05 p.m. Thursday to the 1700 block of West Bruton Road. The 911 caller said the suspect had entered a business and started shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim, 60-year-old Muhammad Hussain from Carrollton, with multiple gunshot wounds, police say.
Surveillance footage from the store showed the suspect vehicle, which police found at about 12:56 a.m. on Saturday. Police say a pursuit ensued, concluding in the arrest of the driver, 21-year-old Davonta Mathis.
Police charged Mathis with capital murder, as well as evading arrest.
Records show Mathis was also charged with the murder at a Dallas convenience store over the weekend.
According to police, around 12:35 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 8600 block of Lake June Road in the Pleasant Grove area.
Police said the suspect entered the business, approached the counter and shot the victim, Dasari.
According to police, Dallas Fire-Rescue also responded to the scene and took Dasari to a local hospital, where he later died.
Mathis was arrested in the case and charged with robbery. After Dasari died, police obtained a capital murder warrant for Mathis and dropped the robbery charge, police said.
Jail records show three bonds for each charge totaling $7.5 million.
