Father fatally stabs 9-year-old son in McKinney, police say

The father was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment. Police said capital murder charges are pending against the father.

MCKINNEY, Texas — A McKinney man is facing capital murder charges after police said he stabbed his son to death.

McKinney Police said the incident happened at 4 p.m. Friday at a home in the 700 block of Anson Court. A neighbor called 911 to report that a woman had found her son unconscious and bleeding inside of the home.

When officers arrived, McKinney Police said, they found a man "in the act of inflicting self-harm with a knife." The child, 9, was found in the garage with multiple stab wounds, police said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the father was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment.

On Sunday, police said the father, identified as 39-year-old Subramanian Ponnazhakan, was arraigned on a capital murder warrant, with a $1 million bond.

McKinney Police said there is no threat to the public, which they believe was domestic in nature.

Police tell WFAA there is no record of 911 calls to the family’s home, or of any involvement from child protective services.

The boy, police said, attended Prosper Independent School District.

"It’s hard to think of somebody who’s capable of doing that," neighbor Lincoln Banry told WFAA.

"I can’t comprehend it. It’s something completely out of the realm...you see it on tv, too much, then you see it in your neighborhood. And…it’s just sad. That there’s people that hurt that much in this world that’s what they come to."

Banry said he wants the boy's mother to know there are people in the neighborhood who want to support her.

"There’s a lot of love and compassion that comes from us, and the neighborhood as well."
