McKinney police shoot, wound man who police say had threatened his wife and fired a gun at officers

Officers say they responded to a call about an armed suicidal man near a creek and apartment complex in the 8700 block of Stacy Road.

MCKINNEY, Texas — Officers with the McKinney Police Department shot and injured a man who allegedly threatened to kill his wife and fired multiple shots at officers Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Around 4:40 p.m., officers say they responded to a call about a suicidal man armed with a gun near a creek by the Avenues at Craig Ranch Apartments on Stacey Road.

According to police, a family member identified the man as 30-year-old Robert Olson. According to the family member, Olson shot a round from a handgun in the creek area, threatened to kill his wife, and expressed a desire for suicide by cop, police said.

When officers arrived on the scene, police say Olson was attempting to leave the creek area. Once he saw authorities, he immediately fired multiple rounds toward officers, who then returned fire, striking Olson multiple times, according to the police department.

Olson was taken to an area hospital in an unknown condition, officials say.

The department said no one else was injured, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Texas Rangers are taking the lead on the ongoing investigation.
